Abstract: | Lesotho's entire political history is marked by incessant and protracted conflicts. These conflicts, which are both overt and covert, have been punctuated by outright violence in one form or another at different points of the country's turbulent history. This paper focuses on the conflict that followed the 1998 election. It pays attention to four main aspects of the conflict: its root causes, its nature, the management of the conflict, and its political settlement. The paper also attempts to blend and weave together the analysis of the conflict patterns and dynamics in Lesotho with a commentary on prospects for stability and democratic governance.
