Abstract: | Environmental degradation due to poor natural resource management is a serious problem in many developing countries, such as Kenya. The many institutions responsible for resource management in Kenya lack policy guidelines, elaborate legal frameworks and human and financial capabilities to effectively undertake environmental conservation activities. Education, training, and raising of public awareness are vital components of an effective strategy towards sustainable use of natural resources. The author briefly summarizes the main technical and tertiary institutions and public universities providing environmental training in Kenya. For effective coordination of environmental training and research, the need for a centralized body with qualified personnel and facilities is paramount. Sum. |
