Abstract: | Pottery has been an important traditional art in Nigeria since historic times. This paper discusses raw materials used for traditional pottery; pottery makers; techniques; and the spread and development of pottery in Nigeria. The author argues that, due to a number of factors, Nigerian pottery has grown laterally without much improvement over the years. Furthermore, young people are no longer interested in learning the art of pottery making from their parents. This is a serious situation which ought to be addressed urgently. Bibliogr. |
