Abstract:This paper examines transportation and transport systems in precolonial Nigeria. Although roads of various sizes have always existed, the traditional means of transportation were dugout canoes on the waterways, porters along bush trails and foothpaths in the southern forestlands, and draught animals in the northern savanna regions. Attention is also paid to canoe making. Bibliogr.
