Abstract: | This article examines the contribution of female librarians to library development in Nigeria from 1960 to 2000, as well as the extent to which they have been appreciated and cited in biographical literature by fellow Nigerians. The article is based on documentary sources, notably biographical works and directories, publications by women librarians, annual reports of libraries, and listings of women librarians with doctorate degrees. The study reveals that only few women librarians are appreciated and cited in Nigerian biographical works. The status and role of women librarians in Nigeria reveals an explicit pattern of discrimination. Despite this lack of recognition, the article shows that women librarians have made remarkable contributions to library education and professional activities, including research and publication output.
