Abstract: | This article reviews the conflict between the mining of the sea floor for diamonds and the rock lobster fishery along the south coast of Namibia. It first looks into the history of the two industries and the socioeconomic role the industries play within the Lüderitz community before analysing the reasons for the conflict as well as the way the conflict is perceived. Furthermore the article gives an overview of the way in which the conflict has been managed and makes recommendations on the future actions needed to avoid a possible escalation of the conflict.
