Abstract:Based on the extant literature, this paper discusses the extent and causes of the brain drain problem in Liberia. Causes of Liberia's loss of skilled human resources include the alleged greed of African professionals and the insensitivity of developed countries, but Liberia's political and economic situation seems the most important factor. Nonetheless, this flow of professionals is not a total loss, as skilled resources that leave remit funds back home. Furthermore, African governments can utilize African skills and talents abroad. This can be done in several ways, including the creation of networks and ensuring that professional and business associations are established abroad with the aim of contributing to various development sectors of the African continent.
