Abstract: | This paper examines the concept of good governance and its application in a democratic setting like Nigeria. It reviews the significance of good governance and its role in improving the efficiency of public services, strengthening democratic institutions and enhancing development. It further identifies various governance structures, including the constitution, independent oversight structures, accountable public administration and the availability of security agencies to ensure compliance. Finally, the paper examines various problems involved in the implementation of good governance and suggests measures to enhance its implementation, such as the acceptance to rule in the spirit and letter of the constitution, acceptance of the principles of accountability, and public service reforms.
