Abstract: | The author examines the evangelical fellowships, which formed the main link in the transition from the dominance of old orthodox/mainline Christianity to the current dominance of Pentecostal/Charismatic Christianity in Ghana. These non-denominational evangelical Christian fellowhips sprang up in the country in the 1970s and could be classified as town and neighbourhood fellowships; workplace fellowships; evangelistic associations; and fellowships with international connections. The author pays attention to the teachings of the fellowships, their relationship to the churches, and their role in the spread of the Pentecostal/Charismatic culture. The late 1980s saw the beginning of the gradual fading away of the evangelical fellowhips. Notes, ref., sum. [ASC Leiden abstract] |
