Abstract:This paper examines the urban tourism system of Bloemfontein, a secondary city in South Africa. Drawing on both survey material from 2004 and secondary data sources, it provides an outline of the Bloemfontein tourism economy. Particular attention is given to different tourism types and their spatial distribution. Thereafter, an overview of obstacles to various tourism developments as experienced by product providers is given and potential support mechanisms are detailed.
