| Abstract: | The introduction of e-learning in institutions of tertiary education used to traditional face-to-face learning has met with mixed feelings and some form of resistance on the part of university lecturers and students in Africa. Based on questionnaires distributed among students and lecturers of several institutions of tertiary education in Zimbabwe as well as a comparison with the situation at Gent University (Belgium), the authors show that the institutions of tertiary education in developing countries face more challenges than those in developed countries. Concentrating on the human factors hindering the implementation of ICT-driven education, the authors show that lecturers and students are not aware of their new roles in the new learning environment. In conclusion, they present recommendations for a development programme which takes cognizance of the human factor issues. Bibliogr., sum. [ASC Leiden abstract] |
