| Abstract: | This paper presents the history of crop research and breeding in Zimbabwe, for the period, roughly, from the 1920s up to the 1990s. It pays attention to the research and promotion of sorghum and the production of wheat varieties. The bulk of the paper is devoted to the hybridization of maize, and maize breeders.
