Abstract: | Many commercial and noncommercial initiatives regarding electronic journals have started in the last decade. This paper, which was presented earlier at the 3rd European Conference on African Studies (ECAS) in Leipzig on 4 June 2009, offers a brief overview of the state of affairs concerning electronic journals from and about Africa. It discusses the historical background of electronic journals, trends in availability, initiatives specifically focused on journals from Africa (AJOL, Sabinet), and more general e-journals projects which are relevant to African users, including JSTOR's Africa Initiative.
