Abstract:This paper presents a general overview of what transpired in the run-up to Malawi's 2009 general elections, during the actual voting process, and also what immediately happened after the results of the elections were announced. It pays attention to the administration of the electoral process (the registration of voters and candidates and the regulation of the electoral campaign) and the role of the Electoral Commission; the role of some political parties - the United Democratic Front (UDF), the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) -; female aspirants and candidates; the overall results of the elections; and lessons learned.
