Abstract:This collective volume highlights the interplay between entrepreneurship, agriculture and local economic growth in Tanzania. It focuses on three main themes: 1. Entrepreneurship can revitalize the agricultural and farming industries; 2. Entrepreneurial agriculture can stimulate local economic growth; and 3. Policies on economic development and agriculture need to take into consideration that the local agricultural industry will only yield positive results if there is effective institutional support for this sector. In nine chapters the following topics are discussed: entrepreneurial agriculture and local economic growth (I.S. Kyaruzi); coffee marketing systems and cess collection (H.P. Ngowi); awareness of farmer groups in Kilosa district, Morogoro, of rural development approaches (V. Mushi and E. Mwakasangula); agricultural opportunities along selected rivers in the Lake Victoria basin of Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda (H.P. Ngowi and others); mechanisms and measurement of economic impacts of HIV/AIDS in the agricultural sector (H.P. Ngowi and A.R. Mwakibete); the potential of agribusiness incubators (I.S. Kyaruzi); A paradigm shift in the Tanzanian economy: from food crops to crops for bio-fuels (H.P.Ngowi); agricultural industrialization and income distribution in developing countries: future policy implications for the poultry sector (N.W. Marwa and I.S. Kyaruzi); policy implications of fostering entrepreneurial agriculture in Tanzania (I.S. Kyaruzi and H.P. Ngowi). [ASC Leiden abstract]
