Abstract: | The problem of urban youth unemployment is rapidly assuming dangerous proportions in many developing countries including Ethiopia. Ethiopia has the largest youth population, and youth labour force constitutes a fast growing proportion. The objective of this article is to explore the employment status, issues, causes, and possible policy options. The study uses both secondary and primary data sources. The study indicates that urban youth unemployment in Ethiopia is fast growing mainly due to the imbalance between the demand and supply sides of the job market. Thus, labour absorption is problematic. Recommendations and possible ways of interventions have also been forwarded. Bibliogr., note, sum. [Journal abstract] |
