Abstract: | The objective of this article is to approach the political crisis which occurred in Côte d'Ivoire after the contested elections of 2010, through the perspective of the Ivorian media and media professionals. The study draws theoretically on the political economy of the media and a critical understanding of the relationship between democracy and the media. After a brief description of Côte d'Ivoire's political history, as well as the political economy of the Ivorian media, perceptions from foreign correspondents and Ivorian journalists are outlined. The results show the complexity of the role played by the media, which goes beyond its responsibility as an information provider, to being a platform for the political struggle in a highly politically polarized environment.
