Abstract: | This collective volume charts the widening frontiers of black literary easthetics using the prose and dramatic ficitons of anglophone, lusophone and francophone writers from Africa and the African diaspora. The first part, Vocal Rejoinders, deals with works of Nigeria's Femi Osofisan, South Africa's J.M. Coetzee and Bessie Head, Namibia's Neshani Andreas, and Zimbabwe's Yvonne Vera. The second part, Contemporary Modernity, investigates the relationship between literature and memory in the drama of Ama Ata Aidoo and Tess Onwueme, a semi-aotubiographical novel by Swiss-Gabonese writer Bessora, and ethno-lingual issues in South African radio drama. Authors: B. Weiss, A. Kehinde, A. Van Weyenberg, K. Secovnie, J. Westmoreland, O. Okuyade, S.A. Agbor, and K.M. Gqibitole. [ASC Leiden abstract] |
