| Abstract: | This article is based on the exit point that individuals shape history and are also shaped by history, and that biographical studies illuminate complex dialectical, social, cultural, political, and economic contexts of their communities, their challenges, and future prospects. The author's goal is to effectively understand the historical forces that have shaped the growth of Kenyan youth education, and he considers the examination of individual educators who have contributed to it as vital. In this regard this article examines the role of Joseph Gikubu, an important figure to students of Kenyan education history, in the growth of Kenyan youth education in both colonial and post-colonial periods. It argues that as the longest serving Kenyan educator, for 55 years he has played an active role in shaping its youth education. Specifically, the article analyses Gikubu's involvement in Kenyan youth education through his works in juvenile rehabilitation programmes of Manyani and Wamumu, youth clubs, Othaya School and Starehe Boys Centre and School, and his insights on educational leadership.
