Abstract: | This short article begins by asking whether African journalism is unique and different in terms of how it is practised, and argues that if, as evidence suggests, it is, then the practice of African journalism research may also require a different approach. It is argued that academic researchers turning their focus to African journalism and the various articulations of the field, should keep in mind the geographic and cultural peculiarities of the continent, and adapt their approaches accordingly.
