Abstract:	This paper explores youths' engagement with interactive media and determines whether there are debates of political and civic nature on these platforms. It also investigates initiatives undertaken by responsible agencies to provide a supportive environment for the youths to engage interactive media platforms constructively for promotion of citizenship and civic participation. Findings reveal that youths' media engagement is dominated by casual chats and entertainment, and that they pay less attention to political and other civic matters. The authors find that in the media traditional adult patronage still prevails. They point out that educational institutions, leaders, media professionals and civil society have a capacity to enhance the agenda-setting and gatekeeping functions of media. They argue that this is critical for promoting legitimate policies, mutual understanding, shared visions and rational argumentation.
