Abstract:This book is a study of the two states which dominated the northern and western regions of the present-day Republic of Sudan from the sixteenth to the nineteenth century. The Funj kingdom of Sinnar and the Keira sultanate of Dar Fur. The authors have spent some years researching into the available documentation of the period and the present book is a concise survey of their findings to date which will give students of African history a valuable guide to the existing knowledge of and literature on these two states. Politics, economics, trade and religion form the main part of their discussion, but there is also account of the dynastic and administrative system of the kingdom of Sinnar.
