| Abstract: | This monograph gives a description and evaluation of German government in Togo based upon archival material. It analyzes the main characteristics of German rule, to seek the reasons for Togo's differences and to determine if Togo really deserved the epitaph of model colony. It contains chapters on missionaries and merchants (1860-1884), early officials and explorers (1885-1900), the rulers (1885-1914), some tasks of government (1885-1914), the mission factor in Togo (1890-1914), and economic change under German rule (1885-1914). |
