Author:MacMichael, #Sir#Harold AlfredISNI
Geographic term:Sudan
ethnic groups
Abstract:Part I is concerned with the ethnological characteristics of the people who lived in the various parts of the northern Sudan before the coming of the Moslems. In Part II an attempt is made to trace the earlier history of some of the more famous Arabian tribes of whom branches eventually settled in the Sudan, and to accentuate the degree of racial connexion or distinction existing between them. Part III contains a series of notes upon the history and composition of the Arab tribes now in the Sudan. In Part IV (Vol. II) a chapter on the origin, value and limitations of native manuscripts is followed by translations of 32 of them, with explanatory notes, appendices and genealogical trees.
