| Abstract: | The author collected data in Mid-Western Zambia (April 1972-March 1973) on the ethnoentomology of a group of closely related matrilineal and virilocal peoples with exogamous clans of the Southern Lunda complex. In these cultures people decidedly use a basic taxonomic concept - called here 'ethnospecies' - very close to a more unsophisticated scientific species concept. In Part I the ant ethnospecies are treated, in Part II the termite ethnospecies, as they are distinguished by informants. Then higher taxonomic levels are dealt with. Each part is concluded with a discussion of how ants and termites respectively are taxonomically systematized by the studied peoples. |
