Abstract: | The author attempts to indicate some legal aspects of the transition from dependent territory to independent state, in which transition the Constituting Instruments play a significant role. In order to effect a systematical approach the territories have been classified according to their status of dependence: Colonial areas, Protectorates, Mandates and territories of miscellaneous status.
