Abstract:Collection of essays covering contemporary development issues in Africa. The book is in three parts. Part 1 deals with urgent development issues facing Africa today. The author states where solutions lie: African countries must increasingly cooperate; more attention should be paid to trade than aid; proper management of development is not really possible without a firmer public ethic and better understanding of development requirements by politicians. Part 2 covers the international scene, stressing the urgent need to establish more efficient and equitable patterns of economic relations between the developed countries and the poor countries. Part 3 discusses Kenya's experience in the development field, which contains valuable lessons for many African countries. However, Kenya faces formidable economic problems in the future and, accordingly, the author attempts to indicate areas in which review and reexamination of policy and action programmes are necessary.
