| Abstract: | An overview of the more general issues involved is provided by a brief discussion of two models that deal with the role of the capital goods sector in accumulation and the provision of consumption goods. In the next part the author looks at the importance accorded to this sector in recent initiatives; he reviews its current status in African countries and examines the cases of Tanzania, Ghana and Zimbabwe; he analyzes constraints on the growth of the sector and considers some African strategies for its development. a final part deals with some central issues in this development. |
