Abstract:The author analyses how the economic position of the femal working class has affected workers, solidarity, how it has affected the level and nature of their participation in the labour movement, and how it has affected their political and class consciousness. The study focuses mainly on African female participation, although information on Coloured, Indian and white female workers is included. Contents: industrialization and the incorporation of women into wage labour - apartheid and the labour movement - amandla ezisebenzi (workers, power).
