Abstract: | In this book, which reviews the current food crisis in Africa from a historical perspective, the author examines the relationship between food crisis, climate and society by tracing the varying character of food systems among Hausa peasant farmers in Northern Nigeria, an area subject to regular drought. The analysis moves from household and individual decision-making in the face of climatic variability to the incorporation of African peasants into the global division of labor under capitalism. |
