Abstract:This research is an anthropologic study of Macasselane, a village in Southern Mozambique, analysing how its landscape and territory embody places and senses of belonging, as well the historic processes this region has lived from the first decades of the Twentieth Century. Two words used by its inhabitants, 'ruins' and 'village', point out simultaneously two different spacialities and senses of identification built around particular places, which embody the family histories of its inhabitants and the own village's history.
