Abstract: | When images of children in conflict situations are selected for a Western audience, what roles do the images fulfill for the audience? A content analysis of photographs provided by the Associated Press and the United Nations Children's Fund suggests that news agencies and aid agencies frame children of conflicts differently, either as passive agents, unable to improve their situation, or as a reflection of the success of an organization's programs, in accordance with ideological and organizational guidelines. |
